Surfing Through Life

We can't avoid the difficulties of life; they come like waves in the surf of the beach. It's so silly to resist a difficulty and fight against it as it is to resist a wave.

Why is that? Because to resist a trial in your life is like resisting the wave that comes against you and you have an option, get your surf board and catch the wave that will take you to firm land after an exciting ride. So one thing that you considered a bad thing – a wave coming against you – turns into a fantastic thing that you are grateful for.

The secret of the victory in any trial is in the trial itself

Look into the trial to find the key to overcome it, not outside the trial. God promised to never give you more than you are able to bear, and still using the same comparison with the surf, He never sends you a wave bigger than your possibility of catching it and be taken into higher ground.
Some surfers are very experienced and skilled and they can catch big waves.

We all have our surf board with us, we are all in the surf of the beach, so there is only one way out, learn to use the surfboard. That's life itself, we are here to learn. When the wave comes you have two choices: either you complain and murmur and curse the wave for coming against you, or you hold on to your surf board and try to catch the wave, if it knocks you down it's fine, you will do better the next time.

It's not always sure that you going to come out of the trial with flying colours without even the smell of smoke like the 3 Hebrew boys (Daniel 3:27). Sometimes you don't do so well and you don't come out so proud of yourself, but at least you know that God was with you in the firing trial and there was no reason to fear.

One thing is certain, the wave always comes and goes, it doesn't stay forever but what you want to do is use it for your own advantage and not resist it and get all tired and defeated.
Jesus taught us how to surf in the waves of life.

He told us: Don't resist evil if anyone forces you to walk a mile, walk with them 2 miles. If someone wants your coat, give them also your jacket. (Matthew 5:39,49)

He also said, Love your enemies, do good to them that despitefully use you. (Luke 6:27-29) Was it because he was trying to make of us spiritual giants of saintliness so we feel superior to others who don't attain to such Christian virtues? No, it was only because he wants us to learn to use the waves and difficulties of life to be carried into higher ground.

The waves, difficulties, obstacles in life have in themselves the power to catapult us into going and becoming what we are supposed to be.

1Corithians 10:13 No temptation [WAVE] has taken you but what is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but with the temptation also will make a way to escape [SURFBOARD], so that you may be able to bear it [COME OUT OF IT AFTER AN EXCITING RIDE].
In life we also have to be like the surfers and don't swim around distracted with the surfboard somewhere else, instead we jump on it, lay on it in a vigilant and alert position waiting for the wave to come. "Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour" so when the wave comes you are ready to use for your own advantage.
